Flight path
I am completing my bachelor’s in CYC. However, currently I am working as a certified ECE. As an educator, my background with interactive and multimedia learning revolves around pedagogy and teaching practice rather than technical design. Having worked as a teacher in grade levels between 1-3, I have had experience creating developmentally appropriate learning environments that emphasize play-based learning, inquiry, and storytelling as critical modes of learning that help young children make meaning of what they are learning. I have used simple multimedia tools, such as storybooks, visual schedules, songs, and interactive presentations, to support diverse learners, including children with varying language abilities and learning needs. Because of my experience, I found that one of my strengths is to identify how a child learns. Consequently while I have very limited experience in creating interactive learning resources, I am able to effectively use these tools to create experiences that are engaging and inclusive, that encourage learning in age-appropriate ways.
Through this course, I want to deepen my ability to design interactive and multimedia learning tools rather than just using these tools. I am particularly interested in learning how to generalize and personalize interactive multimedia learning. In other words, for example, how can I create a comic on the importance of online safety that would be general to address the learning needs of all the students , but also personalized to make sure it meets the needs of all the students. These goals align closely with the course objectives, especially in contextualizing how learning theory informs multimedia design, applying design thinking, and creating prototype artifacts.
Planning my future learning in this course, I feel that the most daunting aspects for me are the technical skills involved in multimedia creation and web-based design. While I am confident in my pedagogical decision-making, translating those ideas into well curated digital artifacts feels challenging. To address these challenges, I plan to approach the course with a growth mindset, allowing myself to experiment, prototype, and learn through repetition. I will rely on course resources, peer collaboration, and practice, while ensuring that my work focuses on how young children learn and engage. By keeping pedagogy as my focus, I hope to build confidence in multimedia design while creating meaningful, playful, and effective learning experiences for early learners.
